…The River Is A Strong Brown God…

sullen, untamed and intractable… (T.S. Eliot) My good buddy Al spends a lot of time down at the river and I’ve mentioned his blog before. He had just gotten started then and now has quite a lot more posts with all kinds of pictures of his sculptures made exclusively from river flotsam along with other curiosities about the river. Al also is very good at locating and photographing birds that migrate through our area and I was surprised by the wide variety of species that come through but never see because I don’t get down to the falls much, let alone out in the country. Anyway, here’s a closeup of one of the newer pieces (with hickory nut eyes) he’s left behind and a nice shot of a turkey vulture.

That square effect glazing technique of yours is absolutely stunning! Is that dark slip underneath or two glazes?

Luv it very much, looks like a well controlled glaze drip under the tip of the handle and the yellow ochre coloured foot (detail) reminds me of a wooden chinese base for a very special pot (which it is). well done Jim
