A Walk In The Woods…

The bug and I went to Bernheim Forest yesterday with some friends and took a long hike. Bernheim is a great place designed by the Olmsted (he designed Central Park) firm and it has lakes and ponds and much interesting flora… many of the trees are marked with little signs to let you know what they are. Although the public knows that they have resident artists, many do not know that there is a big wood kiln on the property that gets fired when one of the resident artists is a potter. I’ve never seen this kiln as it is not in the general visitors area and we even asked the kid at the entrance where it was and he didn’t know there was one. Anyway we took a hike and had a picnic and Sofia caught a butterfly and we saw many different kinds of mushrooms on the trails. Unfortunately, amidst the pandemonium that occurs whenever someone visits because the dog goes ballistic in an attempt to give them all tongue baths, I neglected to put my camera in the bag with our lunches. Later I went to get it out for some pics and after not finding it, got that uneasy feeling that you get when you leave you wallet at home and are not sure if it’s lost or merely forgotten. Instead of pictures of our Bernheim trip here’s another one of the smaller bowls…

Either tonight or tomorrow is gonna be another scrabble smackdown. I’m really looking forward to it because it’s been an uncustomarily long time since the last time we played.

I played a new game for me yesterday.
Catan- have you played? Was a fun one you could teach the little bug to play at some time.
I had a good scrabble word the other day….now what was it?
    Love the bowl.

      hi meredith,
haven’t played catan… i’m curious. i like the old games i have to admit… scrabble and cribbage, maybe it’s because they have two “b” ‘s. if catan was called catabban, i’d already be playing.

It was interesting to read about your visit to Bernheim, and I enjoyed having a look at their site. Your mention of their (mysterious) wood fired kiln, made me want to download an application form and try for a residency. I am enjoying the photos of your bowls. The way you use the resist method looks great, and the way you finish under the foot of the bowl would make them something to really treasure.

I had intended to send sympathetic comments to your “Plum Crazy” post, but was flying around here madly doing the big studio shift, so didn’t quite manage to formulate words on the keyboard. We were suffering a blockage at a similar time it would seem. In our case a large quantity of caustic soda encouraged what ever horror to make its way down the pipe. Yerk, I hate having to deal with such things!!

Crème caramel yummyyyyyyyyyyyyy yet again. Can you imagine them in bright colours ( blues, greens, pinks and yellows its endless – liquorice all sorts), like icing on a cake? That will make them into candy – I am sure eye candy to, for a different market, if at all possible. Anyway I should not interfere, you are the plotter of your own creative destiny and you have an established market, with I am sure, a delicious appetitive.
    Fabulous indeed
