New Digital Art…

September 23, 2009

My good buddy Vern sent me his latest digital print creation. These works just keep getting better and better. My favorite parts of this one are the pixelated wolf and the crisp silhouettes of the plants (I bet they really pop off the paper when they’re printed). This one is black and white. He’s done several black and white ones now and they really look dreamy when they’re printed, especially when they’re printed at some larger dimensions. Of course I can only post at screen resolution but you can still get an idea. Don’t forget to click to get an enlarged view…

I’m done trimming and I’m gonna be decorating for a couple weeks so gotta put the fan in the window and hunker down. Here’s a new bowl I posted to Etsy yesterday (1st click to Etsy, other enlarges)…

Happy 5th of July…

July 6, 2009

Didn’t post yesterday… it was the 5th of July. There’s a lot of hoopla around the 4th but I like the 5th and I take the last fireworks stragglers as a sign that maybe someone else is celebrating the 5th too. So happy 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th and on and on through to October 30th. I like to think of this particular stretch of the year as the Curmudgeon’s Break because it’s the longest holiday free segment of the year… I know Labor Day’s in there but there’s not much hoopla surrounding it and no obligations for me (except that damn southern regulation about men not wearing white or ecru pantaloons after Labor Day – I can’t tell you how much of an imposition that is on my lifestyle). Of course this may be due to capitalism completely obliterating any interest in socialism in the early 1900’s… oops, sorry. How idyllic to allow fun to happen without the pressure of a predetermined date. In the occasional fantasy of “if it was up to me”, I would make every 5th year or every 10th at least a non-holiday year. These Leap Non-Holiday years would still give everyone the same number of days off from work, they would just be free days to do whatever you like. I know it wouldn’t work but it’s my fantasy and I’m sticking with it. Sofia and I spent the 5th together and we didn’t have a cookout, no fireworks, no drinking, no carousing, no family gatherings, no closed grocery stores, just me and her spending the day with the demon dog having fun in our own banal and un-predetermined way. Today, I’m not hung over and the numbness has left my right middle finger however, I did jinx the 10 day string of no ICE (indoor canine excretions) which is how Sunglasses celebrated the 5th I guess. It’s true, she lulled me into a false sense of security and there it was. I won’t go into the details only to say cleaning it up was not like picking your gimme putt up off the surface of the 18th green on your way to the clubhouse and I was very angry at myself for not being more vigilant. Haven’t decided to start glazing or do second bisque but one or t’other. Here’s some digital art that my good friend Vern made…

Turtles Can’t Climb Ladders…

June 13, 2009

Here’s another beautiful digital art print that my good friend Vern made. I particularly like this one because it seems primarily a black and white frame opening curtains onto a slightly more colorful and fantastic seascape…

This also happens to be Sofia’s favorite too, mostly because turtles can’t climb ladders or… can they? I mean it’s right there for all to see. So here’s her reaction when I was putting it up here today…

Moved on to the bigger bowls yesterday and put a couple shots together. I’m sure it gets a little monotonous to keep seeing more pics of upside down bowls but that’s all I have going on in the studio. Next week, I’ll get to the more detailed decoration.

Another Pox On Ye…

May 8, 2009

photogra…phy! My camera’s on the blink and I knew it was gonna happen soon. I’ve been asking around and looking online and I abhor it. Every camera that I’m interested in has some bad reviews somewhere. In fact if you go to amazon, there will always be just enough bad ratings to make you think twice. I always get buyer’s remorse when I buy something like this because I feel like I just leapt in without doing enough due diligence. Of course I can’t stand shopping and comparing… I just want the perfect, low-priced, easy-to-use, manual white balance, no pause when I click the shutter, etc. etc. camera to somehow be obvious and just get it. Not asking too much is it? So another good day to post one of my good friend Vern’s digital art pieces. I stopped by his printer’s house one day to pick up some work related prints (Vern’s not mine) and this particular piece was printed on canvas at about 6 feet wide and hung in the living room. The detail held up wonderfully at those dimensions and it was really stunning to see the image printed out at that scale.

Munchkin Day…

April 11, 2009

It’s a beautiful spring day and it’s Dad and the munchkin solo. Mid 60’s and sunny, have to take advantage before it’s sweltering which won’t be long. Here’s another digital artwork from my good friend Vern… hope you like:

Striped Man
Here’s another digital print from my good friend Vern. There’s a lot going on, much that can be seen if the pic is enlarged and still more that would require looking at a printed version. I love the striped man and whirling stuff flying around his head.

Adam and EveA very good friend of mine makes these fantastic picture in Photoshop and Illustrator. The posted pic is a relatively low-res version. He prints them out to 30″x40″ and they are beautiful… much detail and subtlety that is lost in screen res pics but they are still very compelling images. This one is called “Adam and Eve”.
